
MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL COCOA CONFERENCE 2009
1st Announcement
INTRODUCTION
There have been changes in the world cocoa scenario and advancement of new technologies since the last Malaysian International Cocoa Conference (MICC) that was held in 2005. This international event will bring together researchers, scientists, policy makers, manufacturers, producers and individuals to update and discuss research findings and current issues to sustain a prosperous and sustainable cocoa industry.

Enhancing productivity, efficiency and quality to sustain a vibrant and dynamic cocoa economy.

6-7 April 2009, Berjaya Times Square Hotel and Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
CONTENTS
The conference will consist oral and poster presentations of the topics as follow:
Present trend and prospects in cocoa cultivation, manufacturing, and processing.
Advancement in upstream research – breeding and genetic, crop physiology, agronomy, soil science, pest and disease management, biotechnology and others.
Advancement in downstream research – flavour and quality of cocoa and its products, nutritional and healths aspect, new and non-traditional cocoa utilisation.
Maximising the use of research finding through effective technology transfer
Economics, labours and trades
International cooperation and development of cocoa
Labour problems in commodities
Sustainability issues
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
PAPER PRESENTATION
The conference organiser will arrange for papers presentation by prominent guest speakers from both local and abroad presenting specific topics on current issues and recent technology advancement in cocoa. Researchers and individuals are invited to present oral or poster papers. Intending authors who wish to present their paper(s) must submit their abstracts to the Secretariat before 15th November 2008 and the full paper before 4th February 2009.
The proceedings will be published after the conference.

LANGUAGE
English will be used during the conference.

The registration fee per person is as follows:

The registration fee covers conference materials, souvenir programme, lunches and refreshments. A late fee of RM 100.00 for local participants and USD 50.00 for foreign participants will be charged for registration received by the Secretariat after 03 April 2009. No refund will be made to registered participants who failed to turn up, but conference materials will be mailed to them.
* USD 200 per pax for a group of more than 3 persons for foreign participants;
** RM 450 per pax for a group of more than 3 persons for local participants
